About Me
Mary is a fashion designer in the West Midlands. Mary has shown creativeness through designs she has made for friends, family and associates. She can remember her passion as young as five years old where she would design play clothes for her dolls. Little did she know she would get a chance to fulfil her dream later in life.

in 2011….
In 2011, Mary took the bold step and decided to start studying BA Honours in Fashion and Textiles. She finished with a Second class upper division (2-1) in June 2015. She decided to progress and became an MA Art and Design student. Sadly, during this, she lost her mother.
My Mother
Mary had a close relationship with her mother. Her world stood still and at this point, life was not worth living; she could not get out of bed. As a Christian, she would read the bible in the hope of getting answers. That is when realisation kicked in that she was going through delayed grief.

Comfort in Design
Therefore, Mary found comfort in designing, especially in remaking her mother’s dress. Memories of her mother will live forever but it was the beginning of something new. Makatho Designs. Below is some of my work

Important Milestone
Notably, in 2015, Mary attended The New Designers Week at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London. She showcased her work at a national level with students from other UK Universities. This was an important milestone in her career.

Voluntary
Since leaving University Mary has become involved in voluntary work at many levels. She has developed jewellery classes for the underprivileged as well as sewing classes for Refugees, underprivileged and asylum seekers.
